AWARD-WINNING PROJECT: The complex love story of Ava and Marc
“I have always felt the need to write”, remembers Marianne Dubertret. Fanny de bulle en bulle, her first novel, was published by Lattès when she was just 14 years old, which earned the schoolgirl a place on the prime time literary show Apostrophes. Returning to school was difficult, but Marianne’s career has been no less than brilliant: A literary bac with top grades, journalism college… all accompanied by placements within the editorial teams of Monde, l’Expansion, l’Echo républicain and even la Vie. The draft novel awarded the grant by the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation was born out of a fleeting encounter, “a woman I passed in the street, whose face haunted me. I based a love story around her”. The story of an intense, undivided, almost fraternal but semi-incestuous love between Fae and Jaheel, the two main characters in the novel. A big step to take for a literary enthusiast, who dreamed of combining her job as a journalist with that of a writer. Marianne dedicated her first novel to “all those who believe in their dreams”.
Achievements since winning the grant
In 1999, Un faux-frère was published by éditions Balland. This novel marked the completion of her project, which was awarded the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation grant.
Marianne Dubertret has since joined La Vie magazine as a journalist.
