The “Créateurs sans frontieres” trophy
The ceremony took place at the Quai d’Orsay in the presence of many journalists and artists, namely the 2007 and 2008 winners of Culturesfrance’s foreign branches.
Every year since 2005, the “Créateurs sans frontieres” trophies created by Culturesfrance reward creations or actions of international artistic cooperation which were particularly noticed abroad.
The "Créateur sans frontières" trophy in the Patronage category was awarded to the
Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, in recognition of its involvement in several cultural events, namely in designing the French Pavilion at the Venice Bienniale in 2007.
Within the context of this event, the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation forged a link between Sophie Calle’s exhibition “Prenez soin de vous” [Take care of yourself] and the Maison de Solenn (advice centre for teenagers, ndT) in Paris. Sophie Calle is a great artist who, from a personal experience, created both a work of art and a therapeutic centre for suffering teenagers. She could therefore communicate with these youngsters, many of whom were going through a break-up.
After the success of the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Sophie Calle’s works will be presented in Paris, at the Richelieu site of the Bibliothèque Nationale in the Labrousse room, from 26 March to 8 June 2008.
The Culturesfrance agency, a Foreign Affairs ministry operator working towards the latter’s cultural actions abroad, was created in June 2006 by the merger of the Association française d’action artistique (AFAA – French association for artistic action) and the Association pour la diffusion de la pensée française (ADPF – Association for the dissemination of French thinking). Under the supervision of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry for Culture and Communication, Culturesfrance carries out its assignment alongside the French cultural institutions and the French cultural network abroad.
