AWARD-WINNING PROJECT: Design of the Lone 101 Internet site, whose purpose is to collectively generate the memory of Lone, an imaginary character afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease.
For 101 days during the first three months of 2000, web surfers were invited to recreate the memory of the cyber-hero Lone, who is afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and has completely lost his memory. On the 101st day, he was endowed with a virtual memory, which comprised the images, texts and videos sent in by web surfers. The Level 6 collective then organized an exhibition featuring the main components of Lone 101’s memory. Later, the public was given the opportunity to continue exploring this memory by communicating through the site’s forum and mailing lists, and thereby to experiment with the creation of a networked collective consciousness. Quite a feat! 101 days to create a virtual reality – that’s only six times longer than God took to create the world!
Laurence Simon, Delphine Loucif and Yves Lançon are members of the Level 6 collective, which they founded with three other people (Nathalie Huni, Catherine Feunteun and Ludovic Roudy). Within the collective, they work in pairs, and representatives from each pair comprise the prize-winning trio selected by the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation. The goal of their collective is to heighten the public’s awareness of the various possibilities offered by the Internet through special activities organized in a variety of different places (cultural centres, department stores, hospitals and so on).
Achievements since winning the grant
Since receiving the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation grant, they have founded the Episode Prod company with the Level 6 collective. This multimedia production company designs Internet, CD-ROM and television programmes, and organizes events in public spaces. In 2001, they launched the Time Online prototype, an interactive timeline targeted at children and teenagers.
Delphine Balle-Noucif has been working independently for five years, designing media sites and creative content. In 2005, with Episode Prod (the company founded with the Level 6 collective), she developed a digital art production for Automata, a play choreographed by Caroline Picard. She is currently working on the development of the Le Monde de Victor website (www.lemondedevictor.net), an edutainment site based on the world created by Philippe Andrevon.
