Produced by Antoine Rein, the short film Le Mozart des Pickpockets, directed by Philippe Pollet won a Cesar and an Oscar in Frebruary 2008
AWARD-WINNING PROJECT: producing Sauf Maman, a feature film directed by Nicolas Klein. The story of an 11-year-old boy who finds his mother again after a long separation, but is unable to keep her attention, and has to learn to give up on their relationship.
His portrait
Antoine Rein remembers little of his childhood apart from the films he saw: he can tell you all about The Great Dictator, ET (the "crowd-pleasing" film that showed him the way) or I Married a Witch. At the age of 14, Antoine was obsessed with film: he would come out of school and pounce on his video cassettes.
At that time, he was watching on average of 500 films a year. "A bit of everything", because his tastes were eclectic. But the teenager studied hard too, because he knew exactly what he wanted to achieve: to become a producer! He opted to study at the ESSEC business school, if only so that the numbers would add up, whilst continuing to broaden his experiences and learning, taking courses in television and radio, becoming a reader for television channels and the CNC (the French National Centre for Cinematography) and writing reports on the film industry economy for Ecran Total. With his qualifications safely in his pocket, Antoine created his short-film production company, Karé Productions, and started producing lots of films. "I was quite anxious, and I found it reassuring," he says, adding, "On the pretext that I'd seen a lot of films, I thought I knew everything. I had quite a few knocks, but in the end I began to learn."

In 2003, Antoine was awarded the Procirep Prize for Producer of a Short Film.
